Intro
Der SHANLING ME80 ist innerhalb der SHANLING-Familie wohl als Budgetmodell zu betrachten und der Einstieg in die Klangwelt der Firma. Der Single-DD-IEM ist ein sehr knackiger und technischer IEM, mit einer etwas hellen und lebendigen Signatur. Vor allem der Detailreichtum ist bemerkenswert und wie es der Treiber schafft, diese auseinanderzuhalten. Leichte Schwächen zeigen sich im Mittelbereich, der nicht immer stressfrei ist.
Handling
Die Aufmachung des ME80 wird dem Preisschild mehr als gerecht. Das Lederetui, die sehr gute Silikontipauswahl (2 Sorten in 3 Größen – S, M, L und 1 Paar vorinstalliert) sowie das edle und haptisch ansprechende Kupfer-Kabel bilden ein gelungenes Gesamtbild.
Der IEM an sich kann natürlich auch mithalten, welcher aus einem Aluminium-Magnesium-Mix gefertigt wird und somit unzerstörbar scheint. Dabei ist er trotzdem angenehm leicht und vor allem sehr komfortabel. Es gibt keine harten Kanten oder andere Schnitzer in der Verarbeitung. Well done!
Die Isolation ist allerdings nur durchschnittlich und man ist sicherlich durch ergonomischere Custom-Style-Gehäuse besseres in der Abdichtung gewohnt.
Sound
Der ME80 ist ein ziemlich direkter IEM, mit ausgesprochen guten technischen Eigenschaften. Allerdings geht ihm ab und zu die Natürlichkeit verloren und es kann auf Dauer etwas anstrengend werden, vor allem in den Mitten.
Der Bass entspricht eigentlich ziemlich genau meinem Ideal. Mir fehlt vielleicht noch ein bisschen mehr Pegel im Sub-Bereich, aber der milde Anstieg bis 200 Hz und das folgende Anziehen bis 30 Hz klingt nicht nur sehr vollmundig mit einem festen treffsicheren Schlag, sondern ebenso sehr texturiert. Das verwendete Treibermaterial schein recht fest zu sein, wodurch der ME80 eine gute Mischung aus Geschwindigkeit und dynamischen Punch findet.
Die gute Klarheit und detaillierte Spielweise in den Mitten geht klar auf Kosten einer zu hohen Pegelanhebung, die bei Stimmen auf Dauer etwas anstrengend und grell werden kann. Dazu geht dadurch auch die Natürlichkeit leicht verloren. Hier hätte ich Einschränkungen der technisch einwandfreien Eigenschaften der Mitten mit sehr guter Auflösung und Separation in Kauf genommen und dafür einen etwas harmonischere, sanftere Tonalität bevorzugt. Zu Beginn denkt man sich noch «Wow, was für direkte und saubere Mitten», aber mit der Zeit wird es doch etwas anstrengend, vor allem bei Frauenstimmen. Erinnert mich ein bisschen an den MEZE SOLO.
Der Hochton ist hingegen zusammen mit dem Bass die Stärke des ME80. Auch hier punktet er mit einer hohen Transparenz und Detailverliebtheit. Sibilanten werden gut in Schach gehalten und die Höhen klingen sehr lebendig und offen. Auch feine Microdetails werden zutage gefördert, was das Hörerlebnis noch einmal intensiviert. Hier fällt mir vor allem auch die Festigkeit auf, sodass Becken nicht blechern und künstlich klingen, sondern sehr realistisch auch im Decay.
Technisch ist der ME80 auf der Höhe. Dies ist mir fast schon zu viel Perfektionismus, da die Tonalität dadurch etwas leidet, aber der ME80 ist ein ausgesprochen spannender IEM, der ein sehr gutes Imaging und auch Bühnenausdehnung aufweist. Dabei verteilt er die Informationen auf verschiedenen Ebenen, wodurch ein ansprechendes 3D-Bild erzeugt wird.
Outro
Der ME80 ist ein energiegeladener IEM mit hervorragenden technischen Eigenschaften. Dabei vernachlässigt er vor allem in den Mitten aber ein bisschen die Natürlichkeit und meint es zu gut. Dennoch ist der ME80 ein ausgezeichneter IEM, vor allem wenn man es gerne etwas spritziger, heller, direkter und detailreicher mag.

Within the SHANLING family, the SHANLING ME80 is probably to be considered a budget model and the entry point into the company's sonic world. The single-DD IEM is a very crisp and technical IEM, with a somewhat bright and lively signature. Most notable is the richness of detail and how the driver manages to keep them apart. Slight weaknesses show up in the midrange, which is not always stress-free.
Handling
The presentation of the ME80 more than lives up to the price tag. The leather case, the very good silicone tip selection (2 types in 3 sizes - S, M, L and 1 pair pre-installed) as well as the noble and haptically appealing copper cable form a successful overall picture.
The IEM itself can of course also keep up, which is made of an aluminum-magnesium mix and thus seems indestructible. Nevertheless, it is pleasantly light and above all very comfortable. There are no hard edges or other flaws in the workmanship. Well done!
However, the isolation is only average and one is certainly used to better in the sealing by more ergonomic custom-style shells.
Sound
The ME80 is a fairly direct IEM, with decidedly good technical characteristics. However, it occasionally loses its naturalness and it can get a bit tiring in the long run, especially in the mids.
The bass is actually pretty close to my ideal. I might be missing a bit more level in the sub range, but the mild rise up to 200 Hz and the following lift up to 30 Hz not only sounds very full-bodied with a firm accurate punch, but also very textured. The driver material used seems to be quite firm, allowing the ME80 to find a good mix of speed and dynamic punch.
The good clarity and detailed performance in the mids clearly comes at the expense of too much level boost, which can get a bit tiring and glaring with voices in the long run. In addition, the naturalness is also slightly lost. Here I would have accepted restrictions of the technically flawless characteristics of the mids with very good resolution and separation and preferred a somewhat more harmonious, softer tonality instead. At the beginning you still think to yourself "Wow, what direct and clean mids", but over time it does get a bit tiring, especially with female voices. Reminds me a bit of the MEZE SOLO.
The treble, on the other hand, along with the bass, is the ME80's strong point. Here, too, it scores with high transparency and attention to detail. Sibilants are kept well in check and the treble sounds very lively and open. Fine micro details are also brought to light, which further intensifies the listening experience. Here, I am also particularly struck by the firmness, so that cymbals do not sound tinny and artificial, but very realistic even in the decay.
Technically, the ME80 is on the top. This is almost too much perfectionism for me, as the tonality suffers somewhat as a result, but the ME80 is an extremely exciting IEM that has very good imaging and also stage extension. In doing so, it distributes the information on different layers, creating an appealing 3D image.
Outro
The ME80 is an energetic IEM with excellent technical characteristics. However, it neglects a bit of naturalness, especially in the mids, and means too well. Nevertheless, the ME80 is an excellent IEM, especially if you like it a bit more lively, brighter, more direct and more detailed.
