Intro

Knowledge Zenith beglückt uns ja in regelmäßigem Anstand mit neuen In-Ears. Der “Terminator“, oder auch ZSX ist dabei eines der interessanteren Modelle. Er orientiert sich stark an der Signatur des ZS10 Pro, welcher in meinen Augen bisher mit das beste ist, was die Firma in letzter Zeit auf den Markt geschmissen hat. Der ZSX kommt mit einem BA-Treiber mehr daher und auch der der dynamische Treiber wurde ausgetauscht. Dazu wird ein neues Design eingeführt, welches von der Passform und Ergonomie etwas an den ZSR erinnert.

Handling

Der ZSX erstrahlt erstaunlicher Weise mal wieder in einem neuen Design und ist nicht einfach nur ein Wechsel der Frontplatten, wie bei vielen anderen Modellen. Er wirkt auf den ersten Blick etwas klobiger, aber sitzt perfekt, was den ZSX noch komfortabler als den ZS10 Pro. Leider sitzt die Frontplatte nicht zu 100% auf dem Gehäuse, wodurch kein glatter Übergang erfolgt, aber das ist ein haptisches Makel und ändert nichts am Tragekomfort! Soll heißen ,der ZSX wirkt robuster als der ZS10 Pro, aber nicht so wertig.

Bei der Verpackung geht Knowledge Zenith wieder den Weg zum AS10 zurück, wodurch wir ein schönes schwarzes Kästchen zum Aufklappen bekommen, wo sich der Hörer in Schaumstoff eingebettet präsentiert. Dennoch bekommen wir an Accessoires nichts anderes geboten, als sonst auch. Kabel (mit oder ohne Mic) und drei paar Silikontips.

Die Isolation nach innen ist sehr gut, aber die Außenwahrnehmung für Andere ist nur guter Durchschnitt.

Klang

Auf dem Blatt Papier bekommen wir fast denselben Frequenzgang wie beim ZS10 Pro geboten. Allerdings hat das nicht immer zu heißen, dass klanglich auch genau dasselbe heraus kommt. Zugegebener Maßen ist der Unterschied marginal, aber dennoch würde ich den ZSX als kleines Upgrade betrachten.

Der Bass wirkt ein bisschen punchiger und druckvoller als beim ZS10 Pro und damit etwas spaßiger abgestimmt. Dafür weißt er nicht ganz den selben Tiefgang auf, was aber durch den prominenten, trockenen und saubereren Mittenbass nicht sonderlich auffällt. Wie beim ZS10 Pro bekommen wir einen Bass, den man nicht nur hört, sondern auch spürt! War der Bass des ZS10 Pro manchmal etwas zu aufdringlich, bzw. in seltenen Fällen dröhnend, wirkt der Bass des ZSX noch kontrollierter und mehr on point, hat aber nicht ganz die Tiefe. Das sind allerdings wirklich keine großen Sprünge, sondern ein leichtes feintuning.

Die Mitten sind neben dem Bass und den Höhen nicht auf demselben Level, allerdings auch in der Preiskategorie auf einem gehobenen Niveau. Hier nehmen sie sich zum ZS10 Pro nichts, allerdings können die durch den kontrolierteren Bass etwas mehr scheinen, da er subjektiv nicht mehr zu sehr in die Mitten drückt. Lebendig und Emotional ist hier das Stickwort. Die Oberen Mitten sind wie so oft hervorgehoben, was aber nicht zu aufdringlich wird, Stimmen eine natürliche Tonalität gibt und Gitarren knackig herausstellt. Ebenso springen Stimmen nicht direkt ins Gesicht. Sie stehe zwar immer noch vor den Instrumenten, befinden sich aber mehr auf einer Ebene.
Alles was hier der ZS10 Pro gut macht, macht es ebenso auch der ZSX.

Bei den Höhen würde ich wie auch beim Bass gegenüber dem ZS10 Pro ein kleinen Vorteil attestieren. Knowledge Zenit schafft es hier Details fein heraus zu arbeiten und punktet mit einer feinen Auflösung und sehr guter Erweiterung. Gefühlt mit das beste was ich bisher von der Firma im Hochtonbereich hören durfte, im Verhältnis gesetzt zur dauerhaften Hörbarkeit. In seltenen Fällen können die Höhen auch beim ZSX etwas fordernd werden. Aber wer dies bereits von Knowledge Zenith gewohnt ist, wird hier keine Probleme haben, ansonsten wäre der alte ZS10 eher die Wahl, mit Einbüßungen im Mittenbereich.

Wo sich der ZSX nicht als Terminator entpuppt ist die Bühne, allerdings ist diese in dem Segment im gehobenen Bereich und vor allem die sehr gute Transparenz und Separation macht vieles wett, auch in der Tiefe.

Outro

Wer bereits den ZS10 Pro besitz kann den ZSX getrost überspringen, denn dafür ist der klangliche Gewinn zu gering. Wer allerdings auf der Suche nach einem durchaus audiophilen Allrounder ist, mit spaßiger Ansprache ist beim ZSX genau richtig und bekommt in meinen Augen den zur Zeit besten In-Ear von Knowledge Zenith geboten!

Intro

Knowledge Zenith delights us in regular decency with new in-ears. The "Terminator", or ZSX, is one of the more interesting models. It is strongly based on the signature of the ZS10 Pro, which in my opinion is one of the best models the company has thrown onto the market lately. The ZSX comes with a BA driver more and also the dynamic driver has been replaced. In addition a new design is introduced, which reminds a bit of the ZSR in terms of fit and ergonomics.

Handling

The ZSX is astonishingly shining again in a new design and is not just a change of the front plates, as with many other models. At first glance, it looks a bit bulkier, but fits perfectly, making the ZSX even more comfortable than the ZS10 Pro. Unfortunately, the front panel doesn't sit 100% on the body, so there's no smooth transition, but that's a haptic flaw and doesn't change the wearing comfort! In other words, the ZSX looks more robust than the ZS10 Pro, but not as valuable.

When it comes to packaging, Knowledge Zenith goes back to the AS10, which gives us a nice black box to unfold, where the earphone is embedded in foam. Nevertheless, we don't get any other accessories than usual. Cable (with or without Mic) and three pairs of silicone tips.

The isolation to the inside is very good, but the external perception for others is only good average.

Sound

On paper, we get almost the same frequency response as the ZS10 Pro. However, this doesn't always mean that the sound is exactly the same. Admittedly, the difference is marginal, but I would still consider the ZSX a small upgrade.

The bass is a bit punchier and more powerful than the ZS10 Pro and therefore a bit more tuned for fun. On the other hand, it doesn't have the same depth, which isn't particularly noticeable due to the prominent, dry and clean midrange bass. As with the ZS10 Pro, we get a bass that you not only hear, but also feel! If the bass of the ZS10 Pro was sometimes a bit too obtrusive, or in rare cases booming, the bass of the ZSX seems even more controlled and more on point, but doesn't quite have the depth. These really aren't big jumps, but a slight fine-tuning.

The mids aren't on the same level as the bass and the treble, but also on a higher level in the price category. Here they don't take anything away from the ZS10 Pro, but they can shine a bit more because of the more controlled bass, because subjectively it doesn't push too much into the mids anymore. Lively and emotional is the stick word here. The upper mids are emphasized as so often, but this doesn't get too intrusive, gives voices a natural tonality and makes guitars crisp. Also voices don't jump directly into the face. It still stands in front of the instruments, but is more on one level.
Everything that makes the ZS10 Pro good here is also done by the ZSX.

In terms of treble, I'd say that the ZS10 Pro has a small advantage over the ZS10 Pro, as does the bass. Knowledge Zenit manages to work out details finely here and scores with a fine resolution and very good expansion. It feels like one of the best I've ever heard from the company in the high frequency range, in relation to the permanent audibility. In rare cases, the ZSX's treble can also be a bit demanding. But if you're already used to this from Knowledge Zenith, you won't have any problems, otherwise the old ZS10 would rather be the choice, with losses in the mid-range.

Where the ZSX doesn't turn out to be a terminator is the stage, but in this segment it is in the upscale range and above all the very good transparency and separation make up for a lot, also in the depth.

Outro

Anyone who already owns the ZS10 Pro can confidently skip the ZSX, because the sound benefit is too low for that. However, if you are looking for an audiophile all-rounder with a fun response, the ZSX is just the thing for you and in my opinion it is the best in-ear from Knowledge Zenith at the moment!
